The purpose of these awards is to recognize an individual or individuals that have contributed unselfishly of their time and talent to continue the forward movement of the Dairy-Deli-Bakery Council. This honor also reflects on the company with whom the recipient(s) represents.

2011 Honorees:
DeKeyser, Nasser will enter Hall of Fame; DeCaro, Dressler, and Garza also recognized
Two longtime members and avid supporters of the Dairy Deli Bakery Council (DDBC) of Southern California will be inducted into the DDBC Hall of Fame in January.
Jim DeKeyser, President/CEO of DPI Specialty Foods, and Burhan Nasser, founder and owner of Nasser Co., Inc.,will be inducted Jan. 21 in Temecula at the combined Awards Night and Installation of Officers.
DeKeyser always has advocated giving back to the communities we serve and has made sure all employees and resources of DPI Specialty Foods are made available to the DDBC.
Nasser has grown his start-up food brokerage in Orange County to three offices and has established successful manufacturing and foodservice operations as well.
Gayle DeCaro of Gelson’s Markets will be honored as the 2011 Retailer of the Year and Ann Dressler (G.L. Mezzetta) and Rey Garza (Bar-S Foods) will be honored as the 2011 Suppliers of the Year.
“The DDBC has been blessed with so many outstanding individuals who have contributed so much to the Council over the past half century that it is truly an honor for us to be able to recognize their contributions,” said Stacy Gilbert, 2011 President.
Each honoree will be featured in separate stories in the next issue of DDBC News.
The January meeting also will feature the debut of the officers and Board of Directors for 2011.

Mickey Gold who retired from Stater Bros. last year, received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the Feb. 23rd dinner meeting. Jim Lee, Pres of Stater Bros spoke briefly on Mickey’s contributions to the industry. Jim Veregge did a presentation of “This is Your Life” tribute to Mickey with the help of, Mickey’s wife, Marilyn. Mickey had his family in attendance along with Gary Marlis and Joe Wood who worked with Mickey in the 70’s.
